The PureGuardian Spa ultrasonic aromatherapy diffuser will compliment any room, while simultaneously providing invigorating scents by the touch of a finger. It is quiet and efficient and 5-6 hours of continuous operation with easy on/off power and light controls. It has the option of turning on a continuous multi-color changing light. There is no mess and no filter required and it is easy to set up, operate and clean. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

This reason alone makes it important to choose the right diffuser and my advice to reap all of the benefits of essential oils is to stick with a cold-air, nebulizing or ultrasonic diffuser. I DO keep a little plugin diffuser in my car, although that one does heat up, so I know I’m getting the calming benefits of the scents, but I may be losing out on some of the other aromatherapy effects.
Help kill bacteria in the kitchen & around the home. Clove is a natural antibacterial, powerful against many bacteria strains. It kills E. coli, Salmonella, Helicobacter pylori (implicated with stomach ulcers), Staphylococcus aureus (also known as golden staph), Streptococcus pneumoniae, and many others, with no observed side effects. Put a drop on your kitchen sponge, in dishwashing liquid, and on cutting boards to reduce bacteria naturally. Don’t forget telephones, toilet seats, doorknobs, and computer keyboards!

Essential oils are found in various plant parts. The oils of peppermint, patchouli, basil, and geranium come from the leaves and stems, clove oil comes from flower buds, and oils of jasmine, rose, and tuberose come from the open flowers. Oils are produced from the whole dried and crushed fruit of anise and coriander, the peels of citrus fruits, the seeds of cardamom, the wood of cedar, the bark of the cinnamon tree, the roots of vetiver grass, the needles of fir trees, the twigs of cypress trees, and the exuded resin of myrrh—in short, just about every anatomical structure. Some plants produce more than one type of oil. The flowers of bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) yield neroli oil; its leaves, petitgrain oil; and the fruit peel, orange oil. Cinnamon is just as versatile, supplying different oils from its leaf, bark, and root.
The PureGuardian Peppermint Essence Oil is the ideal choice if you want to create a cooling, uplifting environment. Peppermint has a pleasant, fresh and strong mint aroma. It is associated with emitting an essence that is revitalizing. Simply add just a few drops to your oil diffuser to fill with room with the natural aroma of peppermint. Combines nicely with eucalyptus oil for an extra invigorating blend. The peppermint oil contains plant extracts and fragrance compounds. Do not use in some...
Essential oils are highly concentrated oils extracted from aromatic plants such as lavender and rosemary. About 700 different types of plants contain useful essential oils, and there are several methods used to extract them — the most common of which is distillation. While essential oils can be very expensive to buy, they are relatively cheap to distill at home.
Hi Katie and Joan. I get my essential oils from a lot of different places. I honestly can’t see spending the extra money that Young Living and Do Terra charges for most of my DIY projects. The oils that I get from Mountain Rose Herbs, Aura Cacia and even Essential Depot are just as strong, have been through the same testing for active constituents and are much cheaper. My soap and other body care products turn out fine and are effective. You need to make your own choice based on what you are doing and want to achieve.
Health benefits: Some of the most beneficial uses of this essential oil are pain relief, its treatment of rheumatism and arthritis, and its protection against wounds developing septic. Furthermore, it inhibits bacterial growth, boosts health, clears up scars & spots, decreases congestion, and eases breathing. Finally, it expels phlegm and catarrh, reduces fever, kills & repels insects, stimulates functions, and kills worms.
An essential oil is a volatile material derived from a plant, and it usually bears the aroma or flavor of that plant. Although a few animal-derived aromatic products exist (mainly musk, civet, and ambergris), the ones of botanical origin are far more numerous. Like fixed oils (vegetable oil, motor oil), these substances are generally liquids, they won’t mix with water, and they are soluble in many organic solvents. Unlike fixed oils, however, essential oils are volatile: they evaporate rapidly at room temperature, whereas fixed oils will not. Chemically, an essential oil is a complex mixture of 30 to 100 or more compounds. Only with the advent of modern analytical techniques, particularly gas chromatography, have we fully appreciated the complexity of these mixtures. With gas chromatography, an oil is separated into its components, and the relative proportions of the components are represented graphically as a series of peaks—some large, some small. The area under each peak represents the proportion of each component in the oil, and by experience, structural analysis, and comparison of the chromatogram with others made with pure reference chemicals, we can identify many of the components. Next time you touch and sniff an herb, remember that your nose is being bombarded by a wide array of chemicals.

Improve brain health. Rosemary oil is stimulatory to the central nervous system, and helps to promote clearer thinking. Rosemary has long been valued for its ability to help overcome mental fatigue, and to improve mental clarity and focus. Japanese researchers have recently shown that carnosic acid (one of rosemary’s phytochemicals) has neuroprotective functions in brain cells and may be helpful in the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease.6

Health benefits: This versatile essential oil soothes inflammation, improves circulation and removes uric acid, while giving relief from rheumatism, protecting against sepsis, reducing spasms, tightening gums and muscles, and also stopping hemorrhage. Furthermore, it provides relief from excess gas, heals scars and after-marks, increases perspiration, promotes digestion, gives relief from coughs and excess phlegm, lowers blood pressure, and improves stomach health, while also boosting the immune system.

Assist upper respiratory infections and ease asthma attacks. Eucalyptus oil’s anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and anti-phlegm properties work very quickly to open congested airways. Make a steam inhalation by boiling two cups of water, pour it into a large bowl, then let it cool for five minutes. Add a drop or two of eucalyptus oil. Then create a tent from a small towel draped over your head. Place your face over the bowl and carefully breathe in the vapor until you get some relief. This should only take a couple of minutes. This is great for bronchitis, head colds, chest colds, and asthma.

Hi Karen, there was an error in the article, that has since been corrected. It now reads, “It was even found to be effective against bacteria known to cause respiratory infections in cystic fibrosis patients.” You are correct that Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease and is not caused by bacteria, and that the oils helped with infections in CF patients.

Eucalyptus oil has a very distinct, strong aroma and can be used to treat a variety of ailments, including headaches, flu symptoms and muscle pain. When used in a vaporizer, the oil can help open up sinus passages and relieve coughing, sneezing and other respiratory symptoms. To relieve aches and pains, add a few drops to massage oil or bath water. Medline Plus cautions that eucalyptus can be fatal if ingested even in very small amounts and may cause allergic reactions when used topically. It should also not be used by those with heart conditions, high blood pressure or epilepsy.

As a general rule always mix your essential oils with a carrier oil before applying them to your body!!! There are VERY FEW exceptions to this rule and many company’s out there will lead you to believe it safe and even teach their sales people that it is. Essential Oils even though they are natural are still chemical cocktails and can cause injury and irritation when not used properly. So if you are not a trained Aroma-therapist then always dilute to be safe.

The Aura Cacia bottles are square, and I wasn't sure if they would stay oriented straight or would roll around at funny angles. They sit straight and look great. Be sure to set the back of one on top of the front of the one behind to "lock" them together in place. These come with tacky pad stickers to place on the bottom so they don't slide around in the drawer. Very well thought out product.
Promising research for breast health. 2014 Iranian research published in the journal Nutrition and Cancer found that lavender oil kills breast cancer cells but leaves healthy cells unharmed. It’s important to note that this study was on cells in a petri dish, not on humans. The researchers concluded that: “L. angustifolia has cytotoxic and apoptotic effects in HeLa and MCF-7 cell lines, and apoptosis is proposed as the possible mechanism of action.”2

Citrus Essential Oils are often thought of for their light, summery aromas, but I love using citrus oils all year round. My use of the citrus oils increases during the colder months as I find them energizing and help to uplift the spirits. They are the perfect complement to blends that fight off the winter blues, "cabin fever" and depression. Read about the aromatic properties of each of the citrus essential oils.
