This reason alone makes it important to choose the right diffuser and my advice to reap all of the benefits of essential oils is to stick with a cold-air, nebulizing or ultrasonic diffuser. I DO keep a little plugin diffuser in my car, although that one does heat up, so I know I’m getting the calming benefits of the scents, but I may be losing out on some of the other aromatherapy effects.
Certain essential oils have also been used by midwives to help reduce fear and anxiety during childbirth. A 2007 study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine suggests that women who used aromatherapy during labor reported less pain overall and were able to use fewer pain medications. (2b) In fact, a 2016 study published in Pain Research and Treatment showed that “aromatherapy can successfully treat pain when combined with conventional treatments.” (3)

Studies have shown that essential oils effectively destroy several fungal, viral and bacterial pathogens, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Helicobacter pylori and Candida albicans infections. Because antibiotic resistance is becoming such a major threat in modern health care, using these oils as a form of independent or combination therapy can help to fight bacterial infections in a safer and more natural way.  (4, 5)

Some essential oils have sedative properties, which can be helpful for people who are having trouble falling asleep or sleeping through the night. Lavender oil, in particular, is known to be an effective sleep aid because of its ability to leave you feeling relaxed and calm. Some other oils that can be used to promote restful sleep include Roman chamomile, ylang ylang, bergamot and vetiver.
I am a moderate oil user, meaning I diffuse every night, sometimes during the day and am not a heavy skin application person. Therefore, my collection is small. I love that this is two separate trays so gives you some wiggle room with the layout (side by side, in front of each other or split into two rooms) and I can see each label clearly. If you have a ton of oils to keep out you'd probably prefer a vertical organizer.
In fact, the benefits of diffusing essential oils into the air are one of the main reasons I’m loving these essential oil recipes. When you apply heat to essential oils, many studies show it can actually denature many of the most important chemicals and compounds, so you are essentially just diffusing the oils for scent, and not for the beneficial aspects.
Peppermint oil, with its candy-like aroma, is a great mind stimulator when inhaled, promoting mental clarity and enhancing focus. It also works wonders on headaches and stomach discomfort. This oil has been used since ancient times in Japan and China, and may have been used by Egyptians as early as 1000 BC, according to Esoteric Oils 3. Peppermint oil can be irritating to the skin and should be kept away from the eyes.
Skin complaints. Whether your skin is dry and mature or oily and blotched with blemishes, frankincense oil has wonderful balancing qualities. It helps to reduce lines and wrinkles by tightening and toning skin, accelerates the healing of blemishes, skin ulcers and wounds, and stimulates cell regeneration. For anti-aging benefits, put several drops into your favorite night time moisturizer. For acne and blemishes, apply it neat directly on the problem area, unless you have very sensitive skin, then dilute as described below.

Run the pipe through the cooling tub. If you’re using an open basin, position it so that the coil lies completely inside the tub. It should be completely submerged when the basin is filled with cold water or ice. If you’re using a bucket, drill a small hole in the bottom so the pipe can pass out of the ice bath. Seal the hole using a silicone sealer or epoxy to prevent water from dripping through it and making a mess.
Rose oil is a great multi-purpose oil, but it can be very costly due to the difficult extraction process. It can take up to 60,000 roses to produce one ounce of rose oil, according to Rose-Works. “The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils” by Julia Lawless recommends rose oil for treatment of eczema, depression, stress and symptoms of menopause and sexual dysfunction 12.
Please reply to Ashley or find someone who knows the answer. Thank you very much for helping us study the uses of Essential Oils – I for one hate Doctors with a vengeance… I now have permanent kidney disease from a careless doctor who ‘thought’ he knew what he was doing and he accidentally/essentially overdosed me – “I was on life supports (thanks to his medical knowledge and the drug pusher he was) for 7 days!” I’d be dead if my brother hadn’t found me on the floor. My Dr. now says he was getting kickbacks from the Food and Drug Admin. So don’t trust the system or the drugs anymore.
Essential oils are highly-concentrated essences derived from different parts of aromatic plants, including bark, leaves and flowers 2. The oils are used in a number of ways, from skin-care products to aromatherapy. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of essential oils available and choosing the best one for your needs can be overwhelming 2. Fortunately, there are a handful of commonly-used oils that cover most of your needs and can be found easily at local heath-food stores or specialty shops.
I would start with about 5 drops of oil for your diffuser (for most) depending on room size and the strength of the oil… then can add more. 10 drops for a large room. So for a recipe with 3 different oils, I usually start with 1-2 drops of each and see how that goes. I can always turn it off and add more if I feel it can be stronger, and I’ll usually end up a little stronger in our main living space for example. In my room, I get away with closer to one drop of each oil since it’s a smaller room. Again you can always add more, but start small. 🙂

Essential oils are highly concentrated oils extracted from aromatic plants such as lavender and rosemary. About 700 different types of plants contain useful essential oils, and there are several methods used to extract them — the most common of which is distillation. While essential oils can be very expensive to buy, they are relatively cheap to distill at home.

I use Cinnamon Bark from Spark Naturals. I’m sure you could use either one, that is just the one I use. Also, make sure to get a good quality oil since diffusing the oil gets the particles and benefits into the air in your home and air you breathe. I also love to change up what I diffuse throughout the day! You can either use more than one diffuser so that you can let it run until the water/oil is gone, or just try not filling it all the way and using less oil so it can run for a shorter amount of time. That way, you’re not dumping out anything to change what oils you use. I usually let my diffusers run until what I have in the “tank” is gone and then I change what blend I’m using 🙂

It works much more quickly than peppermint tea due to the concentrated nature of peppermint oil. If it’s too strong for you, just dilute it (see dilution instructions below) and rub it across the tummy.
